Andrea lives in NYC and is in Atlanta on business shopping for wardrobe for these NY Broadway Musicals. Andrea had a HUGE list , like a scavenger hunt, of hard to find clothing and accessories.

Fortunately, the Psycho Sisters team was able to find most of the items
such as a a black and red school girl skirt and tie, clip on earrings,
black and white checkered suspenders, new ruffled spanky panties, leather bracelet band, sunglasses and more items perfect for the performances.

with us a little about herself:

Once again thanks for hosting such a fun competition
and having such a great shop! I bought a couple of things
but i tried to have some self control so i can come back later!

I am a painter, photographer and a carnival costume designer.
Halloween is my favorite time of year for so many reasons, mainly because I get to exercise my creative interests and wear anything i want.
I love how Halloween makes people loose their
inhibitions and shows their unique personalities.

Psycho Sisters is a perfect place to go for costumes
because it provides me with inspiration. There is a
little bit of everything. I love coming across some-
thing hidden in the racks that pulls my look together.
They are the place to go for props, ideas and maybe
something you didn’t even know you needed.
Costumes don’t have to be complicated to
be awesome, they just have to be you...

Ty is a regular Psycho customer
and wrote us after his victory
to share a little about himself:

The Edward Scissorhands Costume was inspired by my office Halloween party theme "Tim Burton" this year. After much debate, I connected with the Scissorhands costume because it was eerie, sexy, needed unique accessories to pull off and had a look still current after over a decade since the movie release. The contrast of the character's compassionate personality was also inspiring as he was talented but also suffered torment from those that supposedly adored and embraced him.

Psycho Sisters has always been one of my favorite boutiques
for clothing and first choice for costume needs.
Last Halloween, I was Willy Wonka
(and with their help also won the costume contest at work!)
The staff is consistently knowledgeable,
helpful and very innovative.

Much thanks to Psycho Sisters for the prize award!
I will be using the money towards a trip to Cambodia
next year to do volunteer service with children.

was recently interviewed by a Freelance writer
for the Sunday paper because of her costume expertise...

1. What pop culture costumes will be/seem to be big this year?

LADY GAGA is huge. She can do no wrong in fashion. Every time I get something new and unique in, like say for example, round pop up sunglasses, customers say, “Oh, this is so Lady Gaga.” Psycho Sisters buyers can determine which costumes will be big this Halloween 2010 based on what current television shows and movies are out. Tim Burton’s version of ALICE IN WONDERLAND is going to be a popular costume get up this year. And fun to put together, too! Also, “ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA”. Of course the pirate theme may be played out, for it was such a smash costume for the last few years with Pirates of the Caribbean, but probably not so much this year, except I am selling great new PIRATE COSTUMES on closeout for $28, regularly over $55. Also, classic cults like ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW are always a sure Halloween hit costume. Psycho Sisters always carries a great selection of bowler hats, Top Hats, and red suspenders to accommodate CLOCKWORK ORANGE characters. What we do is prepare to dress our customers more in a particular character. We always say “If MADONNA, JANIS JOPLIN, RICK JAMES, OR JIMI HENDRIX would have worn it, we will buy, trade, and sell it!"

2. In terms of Halloween, what can people expect to find at Psycho Sisters
and what do they come in for specifically? (Apparel, accessories, etc.)

“Psycho Sisters sells anything that customers cannot find anywhere else, that one weird thing.” Like a green body suit, or a fist pick for an Afro, or a Rubix Cube key chain. Really!

3. Any trend predictions for costumes this year?

I founded Psycho Sisters in 1991 and helped to bring the used clothing market into trend. Eventually, national chain consignment shops started popping up cutting out some of my market for “normal” used clothing. So instead of getting all uptight, I simply re-invented my store’s image. Yes, we still buy, trade, and sell used clothing, but what we tell clients that we are looking to purchase is trendy clothing with a rock and roll edge. So, we have Halloween everyday at Psycho Sisters with 60'S HIPPIE, 70'S DISCO, 80'S ROCKER and 90'S GOTHIC as well as new samples and current Mall and Club Trends. Our employes are trained to be “personal shoppers” for our customers, this is what we call our sales people, who are more like consultants, for they are great at mixing and matching styles with different eras, and putting together something totally fabulous and original. They have a plethora to choose from!

The biggest selling item that Psycho Sisters carries this year would be CRINOLINES and CORSET TOPS. A Crinoline can be used for so many purposes such as for an 80’s look like
MADONNA along with an off the shoulder top and a CROSS CHAIN and PEARL NECKLACE.
And our new policy at Psycho Sisters, which is so cool, is that we are putting a yellow sticker on the back of the price tag of many of our items that customers buy that tells the customers exactly what we will buy back the item for. This way they can justify the expense, for they know that in actuality, the garment is like a rental, and when the party is over, they can recover some of their precious money! Psycho Sisters will buy back the item and sell it again at a used price, which is much lower than a price for a new item. Everyone wins at Psycho Sisters.

We also dress up Crinolines for a CUTE SEXY PIRATE, A SAILOR GIRL, BUMBLEBEE, A MOULIN ROUGE theme, or simply just for a festival or to wear to a club. At Psycho Sisters, we probably have over 25 styles of Crinolines to choose from, from $18 - $42 new, all within our 1200 sq foot store in Little Five Points. Imagine that. You can’t. And don’t get me started with our great selection of TOP HATS. We have more Top Hats and Crinolines than Bubba Gump has shrimp...

4. Are you already getting people in for costumes?
If so, what are they looking for in terms of costumes?

Yes, we always have the pre-shoppers, and boy are they picky! And its such an exciting challenge to find them exactly what they are looking for! It so rewarding when we succeed, which is most of the time. (I sent you photos of the boys from Q100 today gearing up for the big company bash). Also, we have dance groups and theatre groups, rock stars and rock star wannabes. The big Little Five Points Parade is early on October 16th, so all those folks that are going to be on the floats, like our loyal Psycho lovers THE ATLANTA ROLLER GIRLS, are loyal customers. They need that hard to find accessory like a huge RUBY RED RING for a VAMPIRE ($8), or a LACE FINGERLESS BLACK GLOVE ($8), or a GOLD ROSARY ($8) and so they come to us. Psycho Sisters was voted the best Drag Queen store in Atlanta by David Magazine so we sell larger sized spark-lies, too.

We find that customers with the most imagination get a head start and we have heard so many stories of customers who enter a Halloween contest and win with full on garb from Psycho Sisters, no joke. So those creative types start with one accessory, like say a pair of white patent shiny men's platform shoes with a dice in the heel. Then we dress them up from head to toe because they refuse to leave the store without those shoes!

5. Anything you can think of about Halloween costumes
and trends for this year that I wouldn't think to ask you?

Good question. ZOMBIES are huge this year. ROB ZOMBIES costumed much of his newest movie from Psycho Sisters Little Five Points, and MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLER has always given ZOMBIES recognition. Also, the Atlanta Zombie Walk, which is the first weekend of every October at Lenny's Bar, is a blast for fellow Zombie lovers. When I first started selling Halloween costumes, I could sell original 60'S and 70'S dresses, for that was considered vintage. But remember, this is important to know -- that the new vintage is now 80's. And so original "vintage" dresses are not selling, for they tend to be a bit frumpy.

Then, the next phase several years ago was the packaged costumes which could be bought online, like the PIRATE from Leg Avenue. But then customers would go to a party and see other Pirates with the exact same costume and boots on and were a bit embarrassed. So this year, we at Psycho Sisters are certain that our customers are going it with something unique. Everyone is piecing together their costumes and working a little of this and a little of that. Friends are borrowing stuff from other friends to save the expense of having to buy a complete costume. Customers are coming into Psycho Sisters to piece together something extremely creative, putting together original outfits in light of the economy. Our employees give them choices and its so fun to see customers light up and dance around like children when they get to play dress up! We play great music at our store, good times.

Would you give me a little background on Psycho Sisters
and add in anything Halloween-related that I didn't think of?

Yes, Psycho Sisters founded in 1991 by myself and my alter ego, which is big. I graduated from UF and soon thereafter discovered I was not cut out for the corporate world. The success of my first store in Hammond Square in Sandy Springs (still there) was an instant and a big success. I started with a shoe box as a cash register and a card table as my counter.

I travel all over to find closeouts to pass the savings on to my customers and am continually contacted by people who want to sell me estate clothing, designer samples, used clothing in bulk, anything and everything that I can get my hands on that is fun, funky or unusual I seek out and buy and sell.

Psycho Sisters stays opened later than anyone else in our trendy neighborhood, like until 11pm the entire month of October, 7 days a week, to catch all those stragglers who wonder by and are about to be amazed when they walk into our store. Customers have been known to stay for hours and hours. Truth.

And one more thing, Halloween is not just for children anymore. Many adults are going to corporate costume parties. So once the kids are done at dark with the Trick or Treating, Moms and Pops are calling in the babysitters and having a blast out on the town. The music venues are catering to this huge holiday with famous bands at almost every popular venue. Hotels are not slacking either with big events with big cover charges to boot.

"Halloween is my very favorite holiday, for its the only holiday not attached with any emotion other than fun!" says Psycho Sisters Founder and CEO Angie McLean.
